| | | Tarija 26-28th March | | | | | Welcome to Bolivia. After a body shaking journey of 10 hours to cover no more than 150km as the crow flies Tarija is reached. Its a shame that the buses only travel at night because the scenery wold have been fantastic if not a little scary because of the almost vertical drop on one side and the threat of falling rocks from above.
Tarija is very reminiscent of Argentina with some fine colonial archetecture and some equally fine if not better wines just begging to be sampled.
There is an area on the outskirts of town where the ground is very sandy and canyon like. There have been some very important fossils found here because after the rainy season another layer of the sand is washed away to reveal more fossils. However I have tried my luck and only found a couple of bits of old jaw bone that looked pretty much like that of a sheep or similar animal.
I have been out with a couple of people that I met to an area out of town where you can walk thoug rural communities for a couple of hours before reaching a great waterfall. If you look at the pictures you will see.(that is also where the frog picture was taken). A great insight into local life and salud to any of the locals who I doubt will ever read this, but cheers for your songs and banta.
