Arriving in Luang Prabang was a fantastic feeling after being on the boat for two days, it was a pleasure to give our butts a rest!
Luang Prabang, as we mentioned in the last journal, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town has a very French feel....although that is also mixed nicely with an Asian culture. We have been enjoying loads of baguettes along side curries. The baguettes are almost as good as the real deal from France.
Here we vistited Pak Ou, a series of caves above the river housing thousands of Buddahs....its almost like a graveyard for unwanted little fat men. A nice enough journey though. We also spent a day cycling around the town which was loads of fun apart from when a truck passes you and you end up with a mouthful of dust.
For the most part we just enjoyed hanging around the town, soaking up the atmosphere, enjoying more Beer Lao and shopping at the markets. However a highlight was an afternoon trip to some waterfalls.....the name has vanished from our heads, however it was a great afternoon swimming and once again, enjoying the Beer Lao in the sun. As you can see from the photos the colours of the falls and pools were stunning.
On a break from the outside world we hired a room with 4 other kiwis and watched a DVD. It was quite an experience. Basically they have in excess of 400 DVD's that you choose from. Then you get shown to your own little room....or theatre....filled with cushions and blankets. Very cosy and a fun way to fill in some time on a quiet evening.
Next stop from here is Vang Vieng, taking the infamous Route 13......if you don't hear from us in a while, you can assume that we have been taken political prisoners by local bandits. This section of road in the past has been known to be somewhat risky as far as kidnappings go.
Anyway, hope that you are all well.
Love T & C xox
