The morning got off to a really bad start. I told my roommate the night before that I had set the alarm for 6:00, as I was to leave for the delta at 7:00. When I awoke at 8:10, the first thing I was conscious of was her voice saying, ¡°Dude, I don't know how you can sleep so much. It's light out, and I've been up for a while;¡± to which I responded, ¡°Did you hear the alarm go off?¡± ¡°No. I guess you missed your trip.¡± I couldn't have been madder. I rushed out of the room and sought advice from the tour operator who was stationed at our hotel. He said that he could arrange for a driver to take me to the delta, where I would have a private, English speaking tour guide. A couple of guys who overheard said that they wanted to go as well. After breakfast, we loaded up and rode the 2 hours to the delta. Once there, we boarded a boat that took us across the river to a fruit farm. We had lunch¡ªelephant spring rolls and a variety of other Vietnamese food¡ªand proceeded to another boat, which took us to another point on the river. There we boarded a canoe, which took us down a tributary. It was really neat to see all of the other boats lining the river. I was disappointed that we didn't go to the floating market. Instead, we went to another part of the farm, where we sampled tropical fruit and listened to live folk music. The music wasn't great, but the fruit was excellent. We also observed the process of coconut-candy making and sampled the final product. At our next station we held a live python. We walked for a bit and then came to another station, where we sampled honey tea and rice and banana wines. After a final stop at a beehive, we boarded our final boat and went back across the river. We really enjoyed everything about our day.
