We're in Krabi town , just killing a few hours as we wait for our overnight bus to stinky bangkok. As usual we have had a fantastic time. After Koh phan gan, we headed to Khao Sok national park (a huge thanks to Gary for recommending it to us, cheers mate). It was incredible. Sleeping in a bungalow high off the ground, listening to the chorus of animals at night. Went elephant riding (as all good tourists do) and swam in a mini lagoon created by a waterfall. A really fun place, walking down to the shop on the only road at night would mean listening to the amazing animals talking to each other. Went on a lake trip that was sooooo much fun, across a giant lake, thru the jungle to a huge cave. It was gigantic then got smaller and smaller and turned pitch black. 1000s of ugly bats and big spiders. Us, wading our way thru knee high water, then waist high, then neck high. Me with the torch in my mouth and our backpack on my head as we explored this awesome cave, then it was too deep to walk so we swam in the darkness and then climbed up and down and swam again etc! Super fun. We eventually emerged soaking wet but wearing huge grins.
Then we did our own little self guided treks into the park. First day was the easy trek, then we did the mamoth monster trek along the side of a steep hill with the jungle all around. enormous butterflies floating around us, the sounds of the animals everywhere. following a pretty dodgy trail that would regularly disappear so we would have to hunt around to find it. crossing a river half a dozen times , finally making it to an 11 tiered waterfall and just chilling in the water, like a cold spa but such fun as we were covered in sweat. came across elephant dung many a time on the way, found out later they are supposed to be wild. After 5 days we felt like the beach so we headed to Krabi. Krabi town wasn't our seen, so we songthaewed and longtailed it to Ton Sai just next to Raileh. Ton Sai was a great place, way cheaper then other places which meant we could just afford it. it is the climbers mecca and was full of super fit folk. it is surrounded by limestone cliffs and whenever we looked up we saw people contorting into very strange positions. we had wanted to give it a go, fortunately there are some beginner areas but i had rooted my foot. a blister the size of a 20 cent coin had ripped open on the heel of my foot, so there was no way i could wear the climbing shoes. shei had a go at bouldering and i thought she did very well. we spent another 5 days or so at tonsai, reading books, watching the daily base jumpers leap off the closest cliff and land next to us and going for the occasional swim, although sometimes when the tide was out there was no water to be found unless you walked 100m out over dead coral. Now we are off to bangkok to extend shei's passport and then we zoom north. hope all is good sasha and sheila
