I'm sitting in an internet cafe in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. It's a pretty western city and it's all a bit overwhelming because iŽve just come from three weeks in the country.
I just had McDonalds...how crass. All of the lads were hankering for some MaccyD's so i couldn't say no. It's the same all over the world. After this weŽll go and get beers and possibly do some more really Western capitalist pig sort of stuff.
So..where did i leave off. Panama wound up really nicely, there was tears blah blah blah. As soon as we crossed the border back into Costa Rica we would tell we were in for a bit of a different time. There was no rubbish or stray dogs, BLARING stereos and the houses looked a little less like two pieces of corrugated iron rubbing up against each other.
The last past of the project involved building a restaurant, working in a garden on a farm, giving english classes and holding a youth and womenŽs action conference.
We were much more isolated in Coronado, and life was a little more simple. Although, the setting was a bit like (excuse the soppy analogy) where heaven meets earth. In front of our house was mountains, behind us were %45 of Costa Rica's mangroves, which, following a half hour ride in a tinny, brought you to totally deserted, amazing beaches.
Not much to say at the moment. Happy to be finished. WeŽve already bumped into a couple of other people from projects in town. Sound like we were definately on the best one. None of them saw any sun for the whole trip, whereas we all look like a little like ripe coconuts, of which I ate heaps in Coronado. We also got to kill a pig. I wonŽt go into much detail, it gave me the fright of my life watching the 100 and something kilo animal have a fit after one of the community hit it on the head with a hammer then proceeded to thrust a knife into its heart making its blood come out like a fire hose, but was worthwhile watching so i know where my bacon comes from.
Anywho, boy am i looking foward to the next couple of weeks - if i manage to meet up with Biggins, fingers crossed (if you read this take your phone). There has been extensive flooding across the 'reggae side' of the country (carribean), so maybe have to give it a miss, but iŽm pretty keen so there might still be accomodation somewhere.
I might be on the internet a bit now - so feel free to type away! See you all in a fortnight- give or take a couple of nights stop over in L.A. possibly, keep you posted.
Back to reality....... pina coladas and latino women here i come.
