After a short one and a half hour flight from Darwin {on the 14th}, I arrived in Kupang. After a few unsuccessful attempts to find accomodation {my Lonely PLanet guide is seriously out of date!},I ended up in the Hotel Susi and my introduction to Indonesian toilet facilities. {photos to follow!}
I seem to be the only tourist in town and spend most of my time replying to the many shouts of `Hello Mister!` and answering questions along the lines of `Where you from?`, `Where you going?`, `How old are you?`, `Are you alone?` and `Do you know David Beckham?`!
Spent some time changing a travellers cheque, not as easy as it sounds, and booking my ferry ticket to Flores - a 16 hour journey. The girl in the ticket office assured me the ferry departed at 2200 on Wednesday 15th, so, after arranging a lift on the back of a motorbike, I turned up at the appointed check in time to be told that it actually went the next day at 1000. Needless to say, we finally got underway 3 hours late.
Once again, I was the only tourist on the ferry and got introduced to most of the crew as `Mister Ross`. I was invited to spend some time on the bridge and was quite surprised to see the young cook I`d met earlier, steering the ship! And once again, a marathon question and answer session!
I arrived in Maumere, Flores at 1030 on Saturday - slightly more than the 16 hours I think!
