Motorcycle taxi, boat, pickup truck, sangthew, bus, train and here i am in Laos. My moto taxi in Koh Phayam made it to the pier just as the boat was about 100 feet into the ocean. I literally missed the boat...and the boat CAME BACK FOR ME!!! Only in Koh Phayam...can you honk and wave for the boat to turn around. We got back to the mainland and the only transport into town was in a pickup truck. So about a dozen of us got in the back with all our backpacks. The 10 hour bus ride was hot, stuffy, and the only entertainment was a black & white horror film in Thai. Bangkok was flashing all it could offer...so i treated myself to a nice hotel with hot water and BBC news...after 1 month of no hot showers or TV...i felt like Santa had arrived early...and i was a really good girl...because i also got a haircut and a massage...all for $12US. My overnight train to Non Khan to the Thai-Laos border was very comfortable. The cold morning air was a shock from the hot weather i was used to on the island. So here I am at the footsteps of t he Mightly Mekong river which starts in the Himalayan mountains and ends in Vietnam.
