HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!
Hola y buenos dias.
I almost don´t know what to say. It´s totally the most wierd experience ever. After three days of orientation at a ´country club´ motel sort of thing, I am now in Panama working with Cruz Roja (Red Cross) to erect an emergency call tower. We´re living in this bizzare compound with pretty basic facilities, although we are mucho better off than other groups. The towns are flat as a tac. There are no tall buildings anywhere just little bars and food places. The colours are unbeleivable, from the trees to the colours of the buildings.
Last night me and this guy Andy were lifting make shift weights in our make shift gym and we got challenged to a muscle-off by the younger red cross boys. It was all funny until they pulled out their extra fucking huge machetes and started dragging them across the floor - producing some wild sparks. Although, they just wanted us to take photos of them (phew) doing posse poses with their weapons.
God i´m stumped for description. My english has become decidedly shit since i came here and mi espanoal even worse.
The food is basically bean and rice, although the locals have cooked for us twice and its a really special experience to watch the community interact - women in the kitchen - men with big knives outside.
Everyone has a massive sound system in their car its ridiculous - compared to the houses which are very small and unlike anything in Aus.
The nights are hot and muey humid, they are filled with music, fireworks and the sound of animals. The people are beautiful, they all want to talk to us and we are the centre of attention every visit into town.
Anyway better be off as we are only in town for 15 minutes, this is the best experience of my life. This country is crazy but beautiful.
I´ll have better descriptions next time i promise.
Love you all. PEace. Jules. p.s. jet lag is the worst thing since john howard
