friday night unfolded in typical fashion. a beer was poured, a cigarette lit. the typhoon warning dissuaded john from attempting to ride his scooter to PS so we shared a cab, a wise choice. Arriving at PS for diana's birthday bash, a long night of people and drinks mixing and matching, then finally at around 1.30 the call to arms.
myself, john, nikki, jenny, buzz and sandra left PS with gates closed and lights off (and candles blown out at last minute) to battle the rain and walk the three blocks to the PARTYLAND karaoke hall where diana, jared, fe fe, were already belting out the latest and greatest taiwanese pop sensations. arriving there was like walking into a hotel lobby, with the mandatory chandeliers and the marble floors. we took the elevator up and exploded into the room in our merriment. time stalled and memories of japan and "lost in translation" began to flood my mind.....bill murrays drunken songs, mine and jans versions of paradise city and fredde singing sinatra with his deeeeeeeeeep voice. by some mistake jenny ended up ordering 12 liters of beer instead of a pint????? and we all were forced to help her out. so the singing, the drinking, the smoking in the bathroom, the laughs, the seriousness of it all to the taiwanese, the dim sum and the hours passed by, agreeably.
it was 5.30 when we finally left, exhausted, out-sung and done for. a long cab ride took us back to jong hu and i took to my bed like a long lost lover.
