Goats and Wet Blondes

2001-11-15, Kali Gandaki, Nepal

Bit chilly in the morning, especially after putting on our dripping wet freezing cold clothes from the previous days trip. Not to worry because within 2 minutes of sitting in the raft we were wet again anyway.

Continued our journey as the day before - uncoordinated, unsynchronised and underpowered. The Slovaks, God bless 'em, were still having difficulty and prone to stop paddling for no apparant reason. Discovered that the girl behind me from Singapore was captain of her University rowing team back in London, and was itching to go in the lead but didn't have the heart to pull the guys out of the front.

One of the rafts was "accidently" capsized filling the river full of wet, helpless, shreeking little blonde Danish girls who were in desperate need of rescuing...

( ... calm .... calm ... breath now ... steady ... ok! ... Contine.)

Stopped for lunch and let the Danish girls dry out in the sun. Had a shower as we passed under a waterfall. Starting to get a bit more confident and some of the more hard-core rafters of us (that'll be Andrea then) wanted to crank up the action and flip the raft ... much to the dismay of the whimpering middle aged American woman at the back of the raft (or 'ballast' as we hard rafters would call her ... ha!)

Camping on the beach again, but this time with a fire. Paid into a kitty for a Nepali celebration going on that day. Expected barrels of rum to be rolled back, but instead a cute sheepish looking goat (!) was paraded infront of us and then taken taken to be butchered and bar-b-q'd behind one of the huts. 2 hours later bits of raw meet were brought from behind said hut and put into boiling water to stew. Very hungry and very tired now ... but determined to get some. Another hour and I tried my 3 lumps of goat meat (complete with skin and odd looking tubes sticking out of it). All very chewey .... straight into the fire.
