Visa run to Burma

2004-11-29, Victoria Point, Burma

Burma...or as it is now called Myanmar, may be only a few kilometers away from Thailand but is years behind in development. My visa run to Burma was pretty uneventful. I took a small wooden boat from the pier, squeezed in between 2 Burmese women holding umbrellas to shield them from the sun and off we went. The Thai and Myanmar immigration offices are in the ocean...yes that is in a small hut built on top of 4 stone pillars in the middle of the water. The people who live here are mainly fisherman and all their homes are built on top of the water.
