Got up at 07.30, packed my gear, leaft a sleapy Robert and went for breakfast togheter with Lene fra Norge. Her ferry left at 09.00, same time as mine, but she was heading for Phuket so our roads separated on the pier.
The boat trip to Krabi took 2 hrs and I quickly found the travelagency I was supposed to right next to the entry pier.
After 15 minutes a minibus that would take me, Ben and c/o from UK, a nice guy from Wales, Fiona from Australia and some other travellers to Hat Yai and the train to Singapore. All but Fiona, the Walesman and Me got on new buses to various places in Malaysia. We went on to the train. When we arrived at the next agency that were supposed to have our train tickets the chain broked down. There were no tickets for us. We think the booking agencies doublebooked us on these busy new days of 2001.
Fiona told the persons in the agency what she tought of this mishandling of us. We got all our money back and even got 500 Bat extra, half the fee for the bus we now had to take to Singapore.
We got ourself ready for a long, long journey. The information was constantly sparse and we never knew how long we were to travel in each of the different buses we were put into.
Eventually we went off in a minibus that would take us through the Malaysian border an a little bit into Malaysia in order to catch a big bus to Singapore. I turned out that the minibus just kept going and didn’t stop until Penang and Butterworth, after a couple of hrs.
In Penagn we got into a Super Couch, a bus with only 3 seats per row. Nice and comfortable. We were even able to sleep a couple of hrs. We were told that we be in Singapore at 14.00 on the 5:th so we where quit surprise when the busdriver woke us all at 0800 yelling Passports!
We then checked into Singapore, without actually seeing anything of Malaysia, got on two new busses and eventually was left on some street somewhere in Singapore. The Lonelyplanet Books came in handy. Fiona and I decided to hook up and go to STA, a ticket agency.
When walking to the back of a nearby taxi I suddenly fell and hurt my ankle quite bad.
I was able to go to the ticket agency and buy a ticket to Bali on Monday, a ticket from there to Cairns on the 20:th of February and a three month VISUM to Australia before the pain got to intense.
Considering my foot we went strait to a hotel (7 Stories Hotell) were I now lay with a foot buried in ice and bandages. Luckily Fiona is a trained nurse and tapes my ankle in a really nice way. This evening she went out to meet some friend. I’ll just stay in as I can not yet walk on the foot. Hopefully it’ll feel better tomorrow. In worst case I’ll go get some cruches for support.
In the end we didn’t have to pay for the bus trip at all. We earned 500 Bat and got to Singapore a couple hrs before the train :-)
