Bad weather or not, I was determined to at least set foot on Mt Taranaki. So after a 3 hour uphill slog I eventually got above the snowline but couldn't go any further - it was deep! (I think I was on Taranaki but the cloud was so low and it was snowing so I couldn't be sure!).
I did actually get to see the whole mountain as I was driving up to it and managed to get a couple of photos...watch this space.
The owner of the hostel I'm staying at told me of a place where most of the postcard photos of the mountain are taken - you know the sort of thing, calm lake, mountain reflected in the still blue waters. I don't have to tell you that it was not quite like that when I got there........
I went into New Plymouth, a reasonably large town, in the evening to have a meal. Or not. New Plymouth was closed. On A MONDAY night! (a bored waitress told me most restaurants are closed Monday and Sunday nights!) Managed to get a tortilla wrap rustled up for me.
