today i woke up to rain, again. the sky cleared for an hour and we rented motorbikes and drove, myself, heidi, marco, mauro and a thai girl, to the hot springs of pai. the scenery was unreal, so green and lush, river banks giving way to the enormity of rainwater, trees greener than ever, fields of rice laying buddha-like and strewn with emeralds, the brooding sky above ever watching. bikes were parked under a tree, and up to the hot springs we walked, dipping feet in every now and then, and watching the steam rise to be liberated by the clouds in a soft embrace. our thai friend boiled eggs for us in one of the pools and we stood in hot water, eating eggs and being rained upon. wonderful.
after an hour or so we drove to a cafe with a deck that overlooked an immense area of green fields and smoky mountains in the background. we ate, stared, played some pool, and then drove back as it was getting dark, 7 kilometers, no helmet, thrashing rain, no streetlights and no signs, at times the rain was so powerful it was painful to look (something overcome since 60 kph makes seeing pretty vital!)....it was wild and exciting, fun and crazy, something you dont do every day, and wouldnt want to perhaps.
arriving back in pai in time for hot showers and a bottle of wine for mauros birthday tonight! should be a jolly time, every night in pai thus far has been. ciao
