TO ILOILO

today was a scary day in paradise. kirk, morton's 12 year old son, fell off the palm tree while he was climbing to get some fresh coco-nut. i was told he has been doing this since he was 7 years old, so even his father, the englishman who has been residing in this island since 1986, was very surprised. the boy was immediately brought by his friends to the provincial hospital. the doctor stabilized him and recommended that kirk be brought to iloilo city in the nearby island of panay for a ct scan of the head. i volunteered to accompany them to panay island. after being in palawan for almost 2 weeks seeing a different major island like panay would be new to me. panay island reminded me of the carribean. the horse drawn carriages that ply tourists from one point to the other, vast sugar palntation and a centrally located sugar mill spewing sweet smelling aroma as molasses is converted to sugar, the houses with wide windows reminiscent of antigua and the green hills surrounding the metropolis. i also saw alot of japanese and korean tourist disembarking from their direct flight from japan and korea on their way to the most popular beach resort in asia, in the island of boracay.

kirk was brought to modern medical center, his scan results were all within normal range, but he will be admitted to the hospital for 24 hours observation. it will give me more time to see what the island of panay has to offer.
