Girly Island Adventure!

2004-08-03, Paros, Greece

Today, Anna, Kat, Cookie and I rented a car to explore the island with. First, Anna and I visited the monastery near Petaloudes to visit some nuns who are friends of her mom. They made me cover up with this weird frock cause I was wearing shorts. But we had a nice little visit. They gave us these maply coconut jelly things coated in powdered sugar. Then we lit candles and looked around inside the church.

So Anna and I drove back down to Paroikia to pick up Kat and Cookie. We picked up some French hitchhikers along the way. Then, when we were about to turn onto the waterfront street near the port, this freaking tomato man reversed his truck into the car. The car is named Rufus by the way. So there was this whole drama, cause the guy said it wasn't his fault, but we weren't even moving at the time. Anna was honking, and people on the street were yelling "Stassi!" and "Stop!" And he pulled forward, and did it again! So we had to get the rental guy down there, and Anna was on the phone with her uncle who owns the building, etc. But the rental guy took care of it and told us we could go. But poor Rufus has a big dent now!

After we picked up Kat and Cookie, we took the road that goes all the way around the island and basically beach-hopped. I showed them the cove Phillada showed me, and we had a little picnic there. We stopped at Pounda beach club, had a drink, and bought some pretty sarongs and bracelets. We went to Naousa and dropped Cookie and Kat off cause Cookie had to work. Then, Anna and I went on to Kolymbithres Beach, and stayed there for a bit before heading home to change.

We were supposed to go to this club called the Blue Lagoon after Cookie got off work, so Anna and I drove back to Naousa and decided to have dinner there. Unfortunately, the souvlaki shop Cookie works at was insanely busy, and then there was this drama with her boss, so the club idea was nixed, and her dad came to pick up her and Kat.

Meanwhile, Anna and I had a nice dinner at a restaurant on the waterfront. Our waiter, Socrates, was hysterical, and introduced us to this nice Italian couple at the next table. They kept telling us we had to try the wine, and Anna was like, "Well, we don't have any glasses!" So he just brought over theirs that they'd beend drinking from! Eventually they got new glasses from Socrates, and we had a toast. Then the guy bought us shots of sepia (sp?), which to the best of my knowledge is some sort of Italian sugar whiskey, but I'll have to look into that. Anyway, we exchanged numbers and plan to have dinner together one night. Oh yeah, I'm not supposed to call them the Italian "couple." Because it is entirely possible that they are brother and sister, or just good friends, and Anna is convinced that she will marry this man. Unfortunately, we're not entirely sure what his name is!
