On Sunday, we had our excursion to Tadoussac. The voyage began very early....our bus left at 7 AM. The trip there took about 2 hours, but like every Canadian driving trip, it was amazing. There were high cliffs everywhere as we got closer to the fjord. Also, most of the drive went along a river which fed into the fjord. Apparently, the Saguenay fjord is the only one in North America. What makes it a fjord is its high walls, due to the fact that it was sculpted by glaciers millions of years ago and blah blah blah geology blah blah. As soon as we arrived in Tadoussac we got onto our cruise ship. Denise, I must take this opportunity to note the fact that you were right about whale watching.....it was just really wavy and there wasnt much to see. Due to the wind, the temperature on the boat was only like 40 degrees. Plus, the whales were all just the small, black variety. Nevertheless, I did get to see a couple up close and it is nice to be able to say that Ive seen a whale. The end of the cruise was very nice. The fog had lifted off of the river, and the sun was out. We got to see the fjord up close, and it was really amazing. The walls were all really tall and there were many, many waterfalls. After the cruise, we got to see the city for a little while, which I enjoyed. I wish we had had more time in the city, because there were tons of neat shops and restaurants. Next, we went to the sand dunes of Tadoussac, which was really cool. It was basically just this giant mountain of sand that included a beach at the bottom. It was located at the confluence of the Saguenay River and the Saint Lawrence river, so the view from the top was great. The water, however, was approximately 45 degrees celsius, since it was mostly salty Saint Lawrence river water, which originates from the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Needless to say, only a few people got in, and it was only in short spurts. That was the end of our Tadoussac trip. It was a very good trip, but probably the worst of the three excursions, just due to the fact that it was a short excursion and the whale watching wasnt as good as expected.
