We left our camp near the sand dunes after breakfast for a hike across open meadows and wooded slopes to an overlook. It was only a couple of miles, but it was extremely satisfying and stretching our legs felt good.
Returning to camp, we aired the bedding and packed up, and soon it was time to say, "Goodbye, sand dunes, hello, highway!" West to Durango and our campsite at Lightner Creek we went.
A major construction project held us up for a while, and when we got under way showers were threatening. Once again Jean got the rainy drive, up and over Wolf Creek Pass. The heaviest rain fell as we reached Durango, and we were concerned about setting up wet... but never fear, our camp at Lightner Creek was comfy and dry, and remained that way for the duration of our stay.
