Neil and I craved some activity after lazing on the beach in Goa for 1 week. Therefore we decided to travel to the famous Jog Falls near Gokarna which coincidentally has another seriously fabulous set of beaches (Ohm beach, Half Moon beach and Paradise beach).
On the way there we met 2 Spanish girls, Selu and Candi, both working on a voluntary basis for a charity organisation with their headquaters in Bangalore. They came to India for a visit and to see how the projects were going. The only problem was that neither spoke much English. As it happens, I was their knight in shining armour. We had a great time together. So we decided to visit the Jog Falls, the highest water falls in India. It was the most exhausting thing I had done in a while. The way down wasn’t too bad and I enjoyed climbing over stones and crossing ‘obviously’ dangerous waters. The way up nearly killed me though. What annoyed me most were a group of Indian teenagers who went up and down twice without a sign of sweat while I was close to a heart attack. I can’t wait to go trekking in Nepal!!
So, the beaches in Gokarna: Gokarna is a sleepy little village whose inhabitants haven’t quite decided yet whether they like the tourist invasion or not. So far there are only real backpackers (like us ) there. It is far to inconvinient to get there and the walk to the beach is not only amazing but quite a trek. We decided to cop out and take the boat back.
This was when we met Nick and Lisa. Two English people who showed loads of similarities with Neil and me. Lisa is a red-head and very lifely. Nick is bald, has square little glasses and a goatee – get the picture? I have to say, Nick looked absolutely stunning with his sarong and his black umbrella to protect his English skin from the sun. A sight so see!
We got on so well that we decided to meet up again.
