Long walk

2004-06-08, Kampot, Cambodia

now we are in a place called Kampot. We took a shared tawxi from Sihanokville two days ago and last night we slept at an abanhdoned hill station called Bokor. The location was found in 1917 and then the french built a little village there in the 1920's to have as a holiday retreat. It was abandoned in the 40's and the Kmer rouge hid here until 1980. SO! When we got there there were just a few abandoned buildings including a church, casino, a couple of hotels and a hospital. We stayed in the hospital which was renovated into dorm rooms. The rooms were quite nice and the place was quite cold. There was loads of mist everywhere so it looked quite spooky. I thought the town was ok, but since it was 800m up I prefered the view from the cliff edge instead of all the old buildings.

Teh next again day we were supposed to get a lift down but me and another guy decided to walk down. The hill station was 40km from town so we knew it would take the whole day. We started at 8am and it was really misty so after we had walked 40 minuites we thought that we had went the wrong way, so we walked back. Once the mist had cleared we realised that we hadn't and had to go back again so we wasted an hour and a half!!!!

Anyway, it was a really long walk and we ended up walking 45k and thought we were going to collapse when we got back.

Tommorrow we are going to a place called Kep where there are lots of walks you can do and go cycling. Thats about it.

Nothing exciting.

Miss you all

Rach
