So we finally made it to the airport around 1am this morning...we were starving since we hadnt had anything to eat since about 11am!! However, we got to the airport and everything had closed about an hour before we got there, and wasnt opening again until 5am. We had a little bit of time on our hands...we had decided that we were going to stay at the airport for the night instead of wasting money on a hostel for a few hours. So our flight wasnt until 8am but we were here at 1am...7 hours to hang out...GREAT!! WE got some food from the vending machine...ended up being disgusting!! After that we could barely keep our eyes open, so we decided to take a little nap. We found a corner of the airport where no one was around (not hard to do at 2am) and set up our sleeping bags...everything in hand, we curled up and slept for 2 hours on the floor of the Melbourne international airport. When we woke we had another hour before we could get food...so we wondered around until they opened, and then each got a little sandwich and some hot tea to carry us over until we got back to Newcastle. For the next 3 hours we played cards in a small cafe in the airport...not very amusing but it kept us busy for the time being. We were finally able to get our luggage checked and head into our gate...so we did that and then relaxed at our gate for a few minutes before finally getting on the plane. The flight went by rather quickly, and soon enough we were flying over Sydney airport...we were about to land, I could see the landing strip, when out of no where the plane starts going up again...WTF!!! As we circled the airport a few more times, the pilot informed us that there was a mix up with air traffic control, and we just had to wait a while longer before we could land...so basically we almost had a head on collision with another damn plane!! GREAT!! But we finally made it to the ground, and then found our way to the trains. We caught a train to Central Station in Sydney, and then got some more food before getting on our 2 hour train back into Newcastle. The train ride home went real slow, but when we got back, DAMN did it feel good!!! I took the longest shower ever, and then relaxed with Kristen for the rest of the night...man it feels good to be back!!
