Up Close With Wildlife At Gros Ventre Campground
Beautiful Male Pronghorn Antelope
Another Visit from the Badger !
It is always interesting to see what wildlife appears in the campground usually in the early morning or at dusk. We were coming back to the campsite when off to the side of the road in the campground were some pronghorn antelope feeding. We watched them for awhile marveling at the up close look at the face of the male. Such interesting features!
While we were cleaning up after dinner and enjoying the evening, we saw the people in the next campsite looking at something. Walked over to have a look and it was the badger! What a creature! Has such a disarmingly gentle looking face for an animal that has the reputation of being quite the nasty animal when provoked. So our goal was the enjoy him and not do any provoking!
He was moving around looking for grubs, berries and whatever else he wanted to feed on. There was quite a crowd gathered by this time but he did not seem in the least bit interested in us until he heard a dog bark and then he raised his head and tried to judge where this animal was.
At one point, the badger disappeared into the underbrush and when he came out he was right beside me! Stood very still and he ambled past and went back into the wilds. What a treat see this animal. He has such a beautiful coat but he does appear to be very thick.
