Magnificent Moose of the Gros Ventre; Jackson Hole Community Pathways
In our early days in the park this year, we were back and forth to Jackson Hole to pick up some parts for a solar project for the camper. We bought a new roll-up solar panel that will increase our ability to use the heater in the camper, charge phones, computers, etc. without draining away all of our juice. On our last trip out here we discovered a leak in the water line going back to the hot water heater. To repair it we would have to put the water lines above the bed moldings and create some sort of protective frame so we decided to just do away with the hot water heater and just heat water on the stove for all of our needs. So this is the reason for all the trips into Jackson Hole.
On our way into town, we stopped off at the Gros Ventre campground to get a campsite. Found a great one and then headed into town. As we approached the bridge crossing the Gros Ventre river heading into town, there was the proverbial "sighting jam" going on. Managed to pull off even though we had the car in tow! Got out and there was another mother moose with two young. We watched them for awhile and finally one of the young decided to settle down in the grass. Left them to their browsing and headed on into Jackson Hole.
On previous trips we have seen, read about, been told how great the hike/bike path is in Jackson. So this time we parked at the Smith's grocery store and decided to check it out. Put the bicycles together and set off. It is just as nice as everyone says. The path leads under the highway so you do not have to try to get across a very busy road. It follows along Flat Creek past children swimming, people sunning and places to stay that look out over the Creek and the path. Was a very enjoyable experience.
On an early morning game drive the next day, we were rewarded with a beautiful bull moose on the banks of the Gros Ventre river. What a nice thing to see. We went on back to Jackson Hole again and picked up some more supplies. Discovered that Robert's bike handlebar frame was broken and so we had to leave it behind for some repairs.
