Riding through Leadville on the road to Steamboat Springs

Riding through Leadville on the road to Steamboat Springs

The ride from Salida to Steamboat Springs is a beautiful and for the most part unstressful. The first nice town we came to was Leadville. It would have been nice to stop and explore for awhile but we had to press on.

The town was alive with tourists looking here and there and there appeared to be some sort of bicycle rally going on as well. There were plenty of bicyclers to watch out as watching for the sign for the turnoff to get us to the right direction.

Finally leaving the town behind and heading up over Tennessee Pass to drop down to the freeway for a brief period and on to Steamboat. The Tennessee Pass road is nice and wasn't as scary as it could have been. The traffic was not bad and didn't have a lot of people bearing down on us wanting us to go faster. The scenery was very nice, the dropoffs heartstopping at times and then we were over the pass and headed down to the freeway. Flew past Vail on the freeway and exited at Wolcott to head to Steamboat Springs.

It was a nice ride as usual passing through some small towns along the way. Saw several raptors on telephone poles as we drove along. Finally we arrived at Steamboat and headed to the RV park- used to be called Ski Town. We like to stay here because you can plug in, and ride the free shuttle into town and back.
