Camp 62, Queensland
Camp: Mary Kathleen (use to be a mining town, now its a free camping spot)
Stay: 3-6 August
Weather: remaining the same, beautiful 28 degrees in the day & down to a cool 4 degrees over night
Facilities: our own camp loo/shower & campfire, streets of bitumen becoming overgrown with grassy shrubs, a dry creek bed, cement pads where buildings once stood, some local cattle eating their way around the place & lots of beautiful white gum trees everywhere
Activities: explored the vacated streets of Mary Kathleen (& tried to find out more of its history; it closed in 1983) & drove up to the now closed uranium mine, day trip into Cloncurry to top up on supplies & hang out at their Rodeo for a few hours, watched the late afternoon light fall on the white gums, day trip to Mount Isa to explore their outback mining city, ate the last of our yummy Mackarel, and enjoyed the warmth of our campfire until bedtime each night :-)
Next we head south, further into Queensland's outback!
