Camp 36, Queensland

Camp: Smalley's Beach, north of Mackay
Stay: 11-16 June
Weather: beautiful blue skies & sunshine, 23 degrees during the day & 13 degrees overnight
Facilities: camp site #10 was great, used our own camp shower/toilet, had our own path down to the beach (which was rarely shared with more than 2 other people), spacious site with table, lots of shade & friendly locals (brush turkeys, kookaburras, brush tail possums etc)
Activities: day trip into Mackay for food shop & other errands, drive to Airlie Beach for a full day of sailing on the Camira (cruising around Whitsunday Island, snorkeling in between Hook & Whitsunday islands, enjoying the drinks & yummy food provided at m/tea, lunch, a/tea, and chillaxed for an hour on Whitehaven Beach), we explored local spots such as Seaforth, Ball Bay, Haliday Bay, Cape Hillsborough (including a couple of walks/hikes that gave us great oceanic views & some sea turtle spotting), fishing from our beach, sitting on our beach to watch the sun set, chatting to some grey nomads, camp oven cooking (lamb roast with all the trimmings & a banana cake), got hooked on the Game of Thrones series before bedtime, watched the Eagles win& hold onto top spot on the ladder!!

Next we head up to Townsville & greet Elly's folks, Tom & Rosemary, who fly in from Perth to travel with us towards Cairns :-)
