I lost the boys today. I needed some space. And that means I´ve really had a chance to explore La Serena. When we arrivied here, I just considered it a stop over on the way to San Pedro but now that we have stayed a couple of days I like it more and more. Its so much prettier than Santiago, its more spanish and much much cleaner. There are something like fifty two churches here and hundreds of statures of Maria. I got up early (still no hot water!! for showers...ugh)ánd made breakfast in marias kitchen. I really like where we are staying its a cross between a hostel and a homestay. We live in their family home but other kids , travellers, are here too. Its a beautiful house with cacti and they speak no ingles so we have to practice our espanol, well...we don{t really though we just drink its a universal language). Anyway I got up early made some travel plans with the boys and then split. I had no real plans so i just wandered into the markets. I had a few small things to buy and then I spotted this cute boy making necklaces with some kind of hemp and beads and stuff...I wandered over and started looking at them. He started talking and I had to be all like...Oh no entiendo, no espanol , chico espanol. He spoke a little english...Between that and my spanish dictionary we struck up a conversation. Turns out, he is travelling too from guatemala down through peru and ecuador, across to brazil and now Chile. I ask him to make a necklace for my brother and he does and then teaches me the names of the beads he is using. The main stone is Seiva and the Mayans considered it holy, the second stones are coco and combarbatlita. Then he makes me one with lagrima de san pedro (the tears of st peter) as the main stones. We hang out for the rest of the afternoon, just drinking and talking and stuff, When I left he made me another bracelet with more lagrima and another stone from brazil called HUairuro. This stone is kind of like a south american yin yang i think, it means male/female and its a good luck charm. He also gave me another braclet that he wears too to be safe while travelling... V.Cool...
