A visit to Lucerne

We started our trip by taking the train from Spiez along the Brienzersee with beautiful views across the lake. We stopped off in Meiringen where Francis had a few words with Sherlock Holmes statue! We then continued by train climbing high up over a beautiful pass with great views and then down to the Vierwaldstattersee and Lucerne.

We stayed 2 night in the Jailhouse! A budget hotel, simple but clean and very central to the station, shops, river, ferries and museums.

We visited the Gletscher Museum which was fascinating all about glaciers and rock formations. there was also an interesting old house there and a mirror labyrinth so good fun for all the family.

We spent a whole day on the Lake. We started at 9.00 and went to Fluelen at the far end, a 3 hour trip with beautiful scenery all the way. We then took a 1 and half hour hike along the lake to Isleten where we caught another ferry and stopped off at Beckenried and Vtztnau for a walk around. Arrived back at Lucerne at 8 pm.

We spent time walking around the city walls and its towers, along the river and over the many bridges and admiring the beautiful building in the old town. Eating Bretzels and Gipfels.
