Driving to Cambria

It was Easter Sunday, spring break and time to head south for a week in Disneyland and all the sights of Southern California. Our first stop was Cambria on the California coast near Hearst Castle. It was a four hour drive south, the drive is interesting espcially when you exit 101 at Paso Robles and go thru the hilly country. This area is now a new wine region for California. Soon you hit Hwy 1 near the town of Cambria. Cambria was a delightful surprise. It's a quirky kind of place with funky galleries, shops and restaurants. We stayed at the Best Western Fireside Inn right across from Moonstone Beach. The motel was fine, our room was large and tasteful. The hotel has a pool, hottub and includes breakfast. The best part however is that it sits right across from Moonstone Beach. (Some choice rooms face the beach). There you can explore the many tidepools and walk on the elevated paths. It's the beach ats it's best!

We had a quiet dinner at the Moonstone Beach Grill across Hwy 1 from the beach. Great steaks and seafood with friendly service.
