Florence - Firenze
Sunday – Left Lake Maggiore this morning which started as been pretty cold and miserable looking. Made our way to Pisa passing Genova along the coast. Made a couple of pit stops to ‘wash our hands’ and as the day moved on the weather picked up and turned out to be warm and sunny.
Arrived at Pisa and had to park a little way from it so had a small train like ride take us there (bit like being at Disney). The tower lived up to its reputation and was quite a site. Didn’t have time to climb it as we only had an hour and the tickets were for over 2 hours later.
From here we then made our way to Florence and made a stop up on the hill overlooking Florence giving a panoramic view of the city. The hotel was a short ride from here and is in the same group as the first hotel we had in Rome. General consensus though is that the rooms are tiny and so far not too many people are happy. A meal out tonight with a trip up into the hills for food, wine and songs!
Meal in the hills was a great evening the starter consisted of a choice from over 24 dishes!! I tried a small amount of most things and finished my plate. Raviolli (truffle filled) then pasta of another kind (?) followed by roast beef potatoes and salad with dessert to follow of a creamy chocolate light sponge. Plenty of wine, music and food. Had 2 couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversaries. Homewood bound and all very merry and musical on the coach.
