Paris -Rome
Thursday – Went to the Louvre, which was HUGE. We had about 4 hours so saw the main things we wanted to see, Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Napoleons chambers and numerous other things. The day started off sunny and ended up raining. Left for the station to catch the over night train for Rome. Didn’t realise the train was going to be a Roman relic too. Had a cabin with the 2 beds in but a really old train. Loos on the train were the old fashioned ones of no peeing in the station as it shoots straight out onto the track. Dinner was booked for 7.40pm and a full house so we shared with a French couple, which made a nice change. Food really though, was pretty yuck but when that is all there is you go with the flow. When we got back to the cabin the beds were made up so bedtime it was.
Friday – Train was meant to have arrived in Rome at 10.15am but we sauntered in about 12.30pm and no one seemed to think anything odd about the time. Night’s sleep was pretty much as you would expect but maybe better than sharing a cabin! Breakfast was slim though and I ended up mid morning buying a packet of “TUC” wafer biscuits. We got to the station and went for a taxi where the guy said that with the one-way system etc it was quicker to walk and his sidekick would help us walk out luggage to the hotel for $10 euro. We literally walked about 50 metres to the hotel!!
Went out for a walk around after a most welcome shower and had a bite to eat. Saw the outside of the Colosseum. Went back for the meet and greet for the tour and then went on an evening tour which was very informative. Found out we leave for the days trip tomorrow at 7.30am but should be back by 2.30ish. They seem to have many extra tours added as optional extras. Don’t think we will do too many of them as we will be knackered keeping up the pace of look here, look there, go eat here and be back in 45mins!! The tour guide is a guy called Pietro who makes a funny hoohoo (done very gay like) when he wants your attention. So I am sure you can all hear John doing it with him. Not sure if we are going to last the trip as John pushed the suitcase over my bare toe and I lashed out with my toilet bag, hence the broken toe and broken rib hee hee
