Iraklion or Heraklion, everyplace here seems to have 2+ spellings
Saturday, June 26
Relaxing, after a hot trip, in our 5 star Hotel Galaxy in Heraklion before departing for Athens and home due to Judy’s good planning and bargain shopping- a perfect way to end our trip. Apparently tourism is down in Greece which resulted in a deal. I’m sure enjoying the pool and the lavish buffet breakfasts that are included. Heraklion is much less old world and fairly hectic, although some very classic remnants of the Venetian and Byzantine eras can be found (see photos).. We also miss the pervasive excellent food of our other town stays. Enough whining and I'll go enjoy another good swim and sunning.
Monday we fly out to Athens and hope the Metro is not down due to the sporadic strikes in Greece. One night there and we'll enjoy an invite to Chrisula & Janis’ place before flying home for good ol’ San Fran.
