Besides Dancing, bars have a lot of contests that appeal to the masses, like top model searches, or Australia’s male of the year, Jackass stunts, and brain quizzes. Most people at the bars drink out of Schooners, which is a can of beer and a half, give or take a bit. They go for average of $3, student specials get $2-$2.50 for them. Spirits I hardly ever have, at pubs there always around $5, and even in the stores. The cheapest bottle of liquor is over $30 buck. It is because of the taxes on it her. Australians are more of casual drinkers. They drink way more than Americans, but they don’t have cheap beer or liquor. Most pubs are restaurants in the day, and at night are social gatherings where everybody sits and talks. That is why they get so boring so fast.
What is cheap to drink is the Wine. There are so many wineries here that it is very cheap to drink it. Keth, Vinny, and Shay, can relate to me when I say, that here you can get a four litre of box wine for seven aussie dollars, which is around $5.50 American. They call it Goon here, and most Aussie don’t drink it, but we Americans do.
For the seven different states in Australia there is a certain beer that each one hails above the other. For us in New South Wales everyone drinks “Too Hey’s New”, for Queenslanders it is four x (“XXXX”), for Victorians, it is “Victoria Bitter”, for south Australia it is “Charlton Draught,” and that is all I know.
It is funny because Aussie love their beer, but none are alcoholics. They very much disagree with our 21 rules for drinking. Here the 18 years olds are mostly more mature than our 21 year old with their drinking.
