Yesterday was spent recovering again, and today arrived with clear skies and a much-recovered Lennie. We strolled toward Parc Georges Brassens in the early afternoon, taking a new route south of rue de la Convention and past several schools, both university and high school, until we found ourselves back on rue de Morillions heading east to our destination in time for lunch, Baranimo restaurant, a pleasing location directly across from the park’s entrance with welcoming and friendly staff. This was our fourth visit to Baranimo – twice in ’07 and the second visit on this trip. Complimentary glasses of rosé began our meal, and apple brandy similarly ended it. Lennie had the plat de jour, scallops in garlic butter sauce with steamed rice, and Doug felt like he needed sustenance by Baranimo’s cheeseburger and fries. It may seem like the “American” thing to do, but hamburgers are found in many restaurants and appeal to the French, too. A carafe of the house red helped us linger until we were the last occupied table by mid-afternoon, and then a new crowd started to arrive for an early apéro.
The day ended with another kitchen creation by Lennie – chicken breast pounded and marinated in olive oil, salt and pepper, pressed garlic and fresh thyme. The potatoes were baked in cream with parmesan cheese until bubbly and golden brown. Puilly-Fumee wine was the perfect match and end to a day spent the way we like to enjoy them in Paris – casually living in the residential 15th.
