After yesterday’s all-day overcast, we were surprised to see not a cloud in the sky this morning, prompting us to toss our do-nothing itinerary and set off for a walk through the Jardin des Tuileries near The Louvre.
By the time we emerged from the Métro station at Place de la Concorde, it was broken clouds and only some sunshine – and windy, something missing from Sunday. The longer we walked, the more overcast it became. The stroll was fun nevertheless, and over the course of the next couple hours we had to ignore only three “Do you speak English?” inquiries from Gypsy women. The standard response, of course, is no response – tone deafness to any effort to engage you verbally or with eye contact. The “English” ploy apparently works often enough with tourists; it hasn’t changed in the years we’ve been coming to Paris.
By the time we reached the Louvre’s famous pyramid by I. M. Pei, the wind had really kicked in, along with some drips of rain, so we made our way through the gigantic courtyard and out, then over the Seine to the Left Bank, the Métro and back to the Café de Commerce for their terrific mushroom and ham pizza – topped off with decadent desserts.
But the best meal of the day was yet to come -- Lennie's choucroute, which contained the sauerkraut, smoked sausage, polish sausage, ham and potatoes that we bought at Sunday's Grenelle market. Accompanied by Pouilly Fumé wine, it was perfect -- as was this second-to-the-last Monday of our fabulous Home Exchange month in Paris.
As always, Lennie has a (more) thorough write-up of today at aloveofeverythingfrench.blogspot.com Just enter this address in your browser address window and look for today's date.
