There was no doubt over the past week that today would be spent, at least in part, at the market beneath the Grenelle Métro structure. Lennie had her heart set on the sauerkraut ever since we saw it being churned a week ago today. It will be central to tomorrow night’s dinner.
Among the sausage, ham and frankfurters, the only other purchase was some candy to offset the dryness that has been among the most aggravating symptoms of Doug’s cold, which is virtually finished. Unfortunately, he couldn’t resist some caramel squares, leading to the extraction of a crown not five minutes into the pleasure. Fortunately, it was saved intact and just might be reinserted once we’re back in Honolulu.
The afternoon’s delight was a visit by the Marys – Virginie, Frederic and their 14-month-old Romain. He is the most delightful and photographic baby, and he didn’t disappoint – warming up to us enough to take our hands for brief strolls down the hallway.
We’re looking forward to seeing the family in the coming week, which promises to be a busy one.
