On Thursday the 29th of October a man brought three children into one of the bedrooms and closed the door.
In that same room I was laying on a bed with a baby.
This man was a Priest. He took the first child and started speaking Twi to him. He than put his hand on the childs head and started spinning him in a circle. He was chanting in Twi while doing this. He than begain to do a cutting motion under the ribs on the right side of the childs body. He was using his hand has if it was a knife. The children looked scared. He than had them running in a circle around him, with his hand on the childs head. The child got so dizzy he fell to the floor. The guy than kept "cutting" him while the kid is laying there. The child is allowed to get back up, the man says something and than moves to the next child and begains again.
I thought this was so wierd. A few of the kids were crying afterwards because they were scared. I didnt understand why he just randomly did this to three children.
Friday October 30th I find out some of the kids are fasting. I found this out because so many of the older kids were crying because they were so hungry.
While I was taking my nap (its much needed) I woke up to clapping and singing. All the adults and older children were in the other bedroom doing rituals for fasting. They would clap. This clapping was not a ryth or a beat it was random claps by whoever felt like clapping. Everybody was singling a song in Twi. Next you hear someone say Amen and its silent. It begains again, the clapping but not the singing. This time every person I swear is chanting something diffrent. Than you hear Amen again, and its silent. This went on for about an hour. Than everybody just went back to there normal activities.
Its so diffrent being in another culture than my own. Sometimes its hard to understand, sometimes you wanna laugh, and sometimes you just join in. Its something ill never forget.
oh ya, this little boy named Micheal was so hungry he went and took the toothpaste and started eating it. I felt so bad for him. HE was like maybe 7. Poor kids, I dont think they understood that they were fasting. To them it was just like they were starving.
Thats all Folks, Untill next time...
