On the second day in Quito, we were picked up by a bus and taken to Cotacachi for the start of our Spanish language classes. We stayed in the Meson de las Flores inn while in Cotacachi. The Meson de las Flores is a 140 year old rustic Ecuadorian inn, which is a hacienda used previously as the home of the Governor of Imbabura province. Cotacachi is a quaint village located in the high Andes about two hours north of Quito. The people of the village are known for the leather crafts made and sold in the village. There is a number of Expats found living in and around the village, normally in the numerous Condo projects. The village of Cotacachi is situated in a valley between two volcanoes, Cotacachi and Imbabura volcanoes. Imbabura province is sacred to the indigenous people living here. We were in Cotacachi for a total of nine days. After completion of the Spanish language class, we went on a tour of the province visiting properties for sale. We visited properties in Otavalo, Ibarra, Peguche, San Pablo and Cuichoca lakes, and Cotacachi. We also took the time to visit the Otavalo Market and the weavers of Peguche at The Condor. Otavalo is the largest indigenous market of South America selling about anything you can imagine. You can't visit Ecuador without stopping here and having a homemade pie and a cup of good Ecuadorian coffee. Coming up next the Ecuadorian Coast of Manabi Province.
