Doug is beginning to appreciate the adage “Age and wisdom frequently arrive together, but age sometimes arrives alone.” After today’s long walk through the 15th and 7th arrondissements, his right knee is reminding him of age (and his grandchildren’s insistence that he try their trampoline a few weeks ago). The wisdom part is about posting to this Travel Journal, and here’s his wise breakthrough: Lennie’s “A Love of Everything French” blog is already written with its many photo posts, and she does it in a style that this Journal simply can’t match. After all, she’s the one who’ll have another degree by this time a year from now in creative writing. So readers, Doug’s recommendation is to type in aloveofeverythingfrench dot blogspot dot com into your browser’s window and start scrolling through her many posts; you can search for any given day by the date she posts.
Or maybe it’s just laziness; I’m resorting to a rapid-fire post for our walk today: Up rue du Commerce to Boulevard de Grenelle and its wonderful Sunday market beneath the Metro tracks overhead; over to the Seine and a right turn onto Quai Branly, past the Tower and on to the Musée du quai Branly and the remarkable outdoor photo exhibit across the street that overlooks the Seine; cutting right down Avenue Bosquet and its $2 million euro apartments to the École Militaire, where our legs gave out; a short Metro hop to the Commerce station, and a final short walk down Avenue Felix Faure to rue de la Convention, where we relaxed with wine and paté at La Petite Rotonde brasserie.
