hmmm... hmmm... i had a long and productive day :D i went to the regular 7.00-8.00 yoga class in the morning... after i came home, i took a shower, and pampered myself with a pedicure and manicure... oh and i put on some pink nail polish of course :D then i read a little bit...
at noon, i decided to call amal who is a couchsurfer from morocco... she got in touch with me when i was back in turkey, when she saw that i was going to live in ghana for a year and that we are both interested in design, architecture etc (she is an interior designer by the way)... we have been sending messages back and forth since then, and finally today we got the chance to meet :D and here we go, another friendly and nice person i meet in accra!!! amal said that she was going to an arts&crafts fair... so being a good ‘yes girl’ (refer to the movie 'yes man'), we decided to meet at the accra mall at 14.00 and go to the fair...
so, the fair i am talking about is a several-times-a-year event which brings arts&crafts people together... there were shop owners, artists, housewives, non-profit organizations... sooooooo... knowing me and imagining a fair like this, it is not that difficult to say that i deeply enjoyed the day!!! it would be really difficult not to do so :D
this was my first time in a market with this much local products and this many local people :D everything was -as usual- so colorful and beautiful... after this experience, for next weekend, amal and i decided to go to the makola market (the market in the center of accra which i imagine to be pretty crazy and hactic) for a real local market experience :D
today, it was also the first time i was this much by myself :D i took a taxi by myself to go to the accra mall and to come back home!!! taxis work a little different here; they don't have meters, so you tell the driver where you want to go and settle on the price as the first thing... so it was a day to practice my bargaining skills, and eventually i did a pretty good job and paid the fair price for everything :D
i attached a photo of the end result of today: many pairs of ear-rings (some of them are gifts), a new beautiful purse, some cool artwork, many business cards from people, and of course less money in my wallet :D
anyways... i came back home at about 18.00... and later in the evening, we went to a place called sweetie's to have some drinks with friends... i sometimes like being a foreigner so obviously; it makes it easier for me to meet and talk to people...
by the way, i am in search for a nice ghanaian name :D 'belgin' -as usual- is a little difficult to pronunce... i might go for 'ladi' from now on :P it means sunday born :D
ohhhhhh... i almost forgot the best news!!! as a result of a three-week search, i found a spanish tutor!!! there is no cervantes institute or spanish courses here... so i got in touch with the head of the spanish language department at the university of ghana... he said that there are courses planned to begin in 2010, until then he will assign me a tutor :D i am going to meet them tomorrow to talk about the details!!! hopefully this will be the end of the language barrier to open a bakery in barcelona :P
ciao!!!
_belgin
