The second leg of Keith's trip to Asia was spent in my home city - Beijing. It was really cool to show a friend from home the place where I've been living for the past seven months. I realized how much I've really seen and experienced during my time here. My Mandarin understanding is drastically improving and I find myself really understanding the very complicated Chinese Culture more.
We arrived late Thursday night and had a Chur dinner on the street, I was pretty proud of Keith for trying that.
Friday we went to Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and had a happy hour in the Hutongs. Friday night I showed him some of the nightlife in Beijing.
Saturday we did some shopping and it gave him a chance to catch up on some rest. Saturday night we had a traditional dinner and went out to some Chinese Clubs.
Sunday morning, this wasn't easy, but we went to the Great Wall Jinkugo Pass. This is a historic section where most of the battles around the wall were fought.
I think the experience and contrast of both Japan and China was good to see. Both countries are so close to one another, but couldn't be more different.
With love, Aaron
