On August 18, 2009, over 600 groggy ESL teachers, from various locations around the world, descended on S. Korea. Most of us hadn't slept for 24 hours. The only thing keeping us upright and moving forward was the promise of a bed in which to crash (please note that I did not end that sentence with a preposition). Unfortunately, we would soon discover that the longed for bed was not to appear for several more hours. Wedged in between the bed and our present location was a line-up the length of the Great Wall of China at the EPIK registration booth in the airport. This splendid experience was followed by a 3 hour bus ride south of Seoul to our final destination, Jeonju University in Jeonju. Our stamina was tested even further upon our arrival at the University with more line-ups for registration, paperwork, a mini health check, books, snacks, etc. By the time we got to our rooms and found the longed for beds it was 3:30 a.m. We had to up at 8:30 for our first day of orientation. I was beginning to wonder if I had joined the S. Korean army.
