So, I'm now 2 days into my tour around Kenya and Tanzania and I'm having the time of my life! This is what life is about!
Yesterday.... We left Nairobi and travelled for nearly the whole day on a very bumpy road. Luckily my pillow was fantastic and held out for me and enabled me to sleep for most of it! I hardly slept the whole night in Nairobi so I really needed it! We got to our camp and had a bit of time to put up the tent in the light. It was great fun. I'm sharing with a lovely Auzzie girl named Samantha. Oh by the way, on our tour, there's about 7 English, 7 Aussies and 1 Dutch and 1 Brazillian! Hold on, there's 20 of us and that doesn't add up, but i did say the numbers were approximate. Everyone is really cool, a really good bunch! No annoying wierdos!! We get our meals prepared for us, but we have to clean up, so we all muck in. We have to 'flap'! Basically, using kitchen towels are not hygienic so we have to stand there flapping everything dry. It's a funny sight, but it gets everyone laughing. On the way to our camp site, we saw loads of Masia people wandering the land, and also some giraffe and zebra wandering around.
Anyway, we slept fine in our tent and had a late start today. Well, at least breakfast was at 7.30. We had to be ready with our tents pulled down by then. We did a cultural tour around a village in Mto Wa Mbu or something like that. It was a massive village with banana plantations, papaya, avocatos, church, school, huts and the lot. it was great. They even create carvings there and paint paintings here. one thing that has suprised me is the price of everything here. I went to by a magnet and they told me 12 pounds!! Crazy. Things are well expensive! I'm sure I can get one cheaper soon! Anyway, we had so much food at lunch, all the local cuisine, i even tried red bananas. They were so nice! Fried bananas, spinach an even aubergine! I know, i'm proud of myself too!! They know that mum is from Kenya, so they keep shouting "Bachao" to me!! Its funny. Also sang the Jambo song. I remembered it. Anyway, we got back into our monster truck and everyone fell asleep straight away. Its really hot in the day so the heat and the good food took it out of us.......... Got to camp site, yada yada yada set up, showered and eaten so we're ready for tomorrow now. Oh, Neetalbhabi, I tried Ugali, I didn't like it! And that reminds me, I can't wait to see Riyan again! Hope he is okay in Turkey.
We're off to the Serengetti tomorrow where we're camping amongst the wildlife with no barriers. Looking forward to it. Most of the others on the trip have already done others similar around here and one of their stories involves lions right outside their tent for a couple of hours through the night. I can't wait to hear the roars in the night!! We can't get up for a pee or anything so its gonna be scary! Don't worry thought Mum :-) Anyway, better go and get my bag packed for tomorrow, as we're all splitting up into jeeps of 6 for the safari. Back to civilisation in 3 days, so I'll fill you in then on how the safari went. I can't wait.
Oh, if you guys were wondering. I was really ill on Friday and Saturday, but luckily managed to feel a bit better on Sunday. With a sore stomach, I just relaxed all the way on the plane, with my Kipling Chocolate Cake bars keeping my tummy full! x
