Ok, I was thinking that making a "travel journal" would be easier than having to put up a bunch of pictures and then somewhat explaining what they are of, or where I've been. So, I went ahead and put up all of the pictures that I've taken so far.
The first of the pictures you'll see is of me, mom, dad, and cholo sitting in the airport waiting for my plane to board. We saw Barry Manilow walking into the security check...that was a funny conversation:
Chloe: "I hear there's always famous people walking around this airport, oooh, I wonder if Joe Jonas is here..."
Mom: "Hey look, there's Barry Manilow"
Rachael: "That's so not him mom, that's just a really skinny woman with bad hair"
Turns out...it was him. eek.
The plane ride wasn't that bad. We left at 5:30pm from LAX and landed at 11:50am in London which means that it was a 9 hour overnight plane. Easy! I took an illegally obtained Ambien (thanks dad) and went right to sleep. At the London airport, I exchanged my $100 into euro's and was expecting maybe 80euro in exchange. Nope. My $100 only got me a measly 55 euros. Total BS.
So then we took a 2 hr flight into Frankfurt, got our luggage (my luggage cart was taller than I am), and then took a 1hr bus ride into Heidelberg. Then the scheiße (Entschuldigung mein Deutch!) hit the fan...we were on our own getting our luggage up the 5 billion stairs and into our rooms. I almost had a heart attack. No joke!
Then we got a tour, got our rooms (rm 11, mom's old room!), found roommates (mine are wonderful :) ) and then went to bed. We had orientation the next two days which basically consisted of listening to the program director painstakingly outline every last detail of the rule-book. Thursday night was our first night eating at the Essighaus, where we had cream soup, deep fried pork chops, and french fries for dinner...thank god for the 300 stairs it takes to get up the hill to the house!!
Saturday morning we took a boat tour up the Neckar to the town of Neckarsteinach. It was absolutely beautiful :) We walked around the town a little, then hiked up the hills to an old castle. Sunday we spent the day exploring the town and we took some pictures on the old bridge.
This morning was a VERY early morning...breakfast started at 7am, and we had to be in town for our "German language bootcamp" at 8:30. We have German classes early every morning this week, and next week our actual classes start. I've decided to switch out of my regular 8am German class and into the Intensive German class to give myself somewhat of a challenge this year...plus it's a 9:45am class so i get an extra hour of sleep :)I'm finally getting used to the time difference, so I'm slowly feeling more human and less zombie-esqe.
That's all that's happened so far. But I'll keep my pictures and explanations as current as I can :)
