I left Truth or Consequences and headed into the Gila National Wilderness. It was a slow and winding trip that first brought me to a small town called Hillsboro. I saw someone selling some fresh vegetables in front of a gallery so I stopped to get some as I planned to stay in a hostel in Silver City. I bought some super fat & short carrots, some yummy red tomatoes both large and cherry, some zucchini, some fresh chipotle powder and some chipotle covered fresh pecans. While I was admiring the veggies… several of the people sitting in the shade of the tree out in front of the gallery were admiring my jewelry. They told me that I should come and look at their gallery in case I wanted to place my jewelry there. I looked and decided it could be a good fit. I now have a pile of veggies and an appointment to show my jewelry to the coop committee on Tuesday September 8th.
After more driving through ever changing scenery of the Gila Wilderness I went from desert to mountains to high desert. It is really pretty here. I arrived in Silver City and got a call from Sharifa Renfro who runs the Wren’s Guesthouse or Silver City Hostel where I planned to stay. I booked it or made the reservation though an organization in Europe called hostelbookers.com. It turns out I am Greg and Sharifa’s first official guest in their guesthouse. I arrived in at the guesthouse where I booked the Caravan. I was not sure if this meant a trailer or what. In Australia you often rent vacation places in Caravans in caravan parks. She showed me around and showed me the other spaces as well as the caravan and said she wanted me to be happy and there were no other guests so could pick whichever spot looked good to me. I decided the caravan might be a little hot in the night… and the walk to the house to the bathrooms at night might be a little far and challenging. I chose a room they just finished painting, it was empty so I brought in my airbed and my own sheets/blankets. Greg and Sharifa live with three cats and three dogs. Maggie, Belle, and Bennie, anxious and excited dogs, Romeo a cat that looks part Siamese, lucy a delicate black and white mix house cat, and Spidy the outdoor pumpkin colored long hair who rules the garden.
