Day 1

2009-09-04, Mapo, Korea, South

It hadn't really hit me yet. I had this trip planned for months and here I was...on my way to Korea. Flying from San Diego to LA (3 hour layover) to Hong Kong (4 hour layover) and then finally to Seoul. It took over 24 hours, over ten thousand miles of traveling to get here. It still hadn't really hit me...until I saw her waiting for me at the gate. She looked gorgeous...

I hadn't really slept on the plane and I was dead tired. The bus ride wasn't too bad. I was excited to begin exploring and she had everything planned for me (A first since I like to usually plan). We went to Seokyo to check in. Seokyo is only minutes down the street from her house. And from what I learned, also only minutes from the watchful eyes of her parentals. I rested with her for a little bit in the room before heading out around the Hongik University area to explore. My first thought: man this area is packed. From coffee shops to hofs to restaurants to you name it. High rises with Korean girls dancing in windows of kareoke bars on the top floors and three story coffee shops on every corner. We made our way to a Korean bbq place and went to town. It was a great choice. I sat near a window to take in the outside scenery as she cooked our meal on the open grill in the middle of our table. The thing I love best about eating Korean food is all the little side dishes that come with your meal. It was great.

We then went to a coffee shop in a little fancy area she had found. This was the first of many..and I mean maaaannnny cups of coffee that I had during my trip. It was good. The inside was simple with different types of chairs and a nice homey feel. After our coffee we decided to walk up and down all the streets. We went into a couple of shops and finally found a place to have a couple of beers. I tried Cass, the Korean brand. After getting a bit tipsy, we headed back to the hotel.

Even though she didn't really have a curfew, she did have parents that worried. You can tell since they called about every hour on the hour. I didn't mind though since I knew they had never met any of her friends or a guy she was dating. And I bet they were suspicious about me. We called it a night a lil after midnight. It was a great first day.
