Nearing the end of an amazing journey

First impressions flying in to Calgary were the almost treeless landscape and the chinook wind haze out in the fields still surprisingly prarie greenish. Met up with Lyn and Chris for another few days. They have just "done new York".
It is difficult to locate the shops, especislly supermarkets here. They have little external advertising and are mainly found in far flung suburban centres. We were evacuated from our hotel in the middle of the night because some French kid lit something. Bit of smoke and the Fire Brigade. Frantic but orderly rush down stairs with my broken toe. Glad we were not on the higher floors. Fortunately it was still warm out. Continuing to support the restaurant industry, eating well. Steaks are big part of local menus. Hired a car and drove out to the Royal Tyrrell Paleontology Museum, a must for all dinosuar lovers. An awesome experience. Many of the exhibits were found locally. Also saw the exquisite but rapidly eroding Hoo Doos. The final museum - Glen Bow - has an extensive, detailed and authentic 7 Peoples - Aboriginal exhibition. I am always blown away with the similarities between aboriginal peoples of the world, their legends and culture and simple practical use of environment items for basic technology activities. The weather is just beginning to cool down to around 20 max per day. It will become cold here very soon. Covered Walkways link the main business and shopping precinct - called the 15 plus. Obviously quite necessary in Winter. See further information regarding World Skills in a later entry.
