We arrived in Lovina at 11:30pm, which was not a fun experience after a 3am start and putting up with an idiot bus driver who refused to continue our journey unless we paid him more money! Just as I was about to despair though and lower my very high opinion of the Indonesian people, a very friendly man helped us find a very reasonable room for the night. I held this man in great esteem the next morning when we woke up and realized our room and balcony had spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and rice paddies.
Lovina is a beach resort on the north coast of Bali and is much more laid back those towards the south. We had a very relaxing time here and did very little other than explore the town, make the most of happy hour, wander along the black sand beach – our first on this trip – and watch the beautiful sunsets.
We intended to go on a boat trip to see the dolphins that make this area famous but, unfortunately, our plans were rudely interrupted by a very severe tummy ache. I spent the whole day in bed while John, my Knight in shining armour, ran around town organising onward travel and visiting the pharmacy to get me some tablets to take the pain and infection away. Let’s hope all improves before we get to Candi Dasa for some diving!
