Singapore wasn’t originally on our itinerary but, as is the way with travelling, even the best laid plans change. That’s the beauty of it, especially when you have a good time
The weather was pretty appalling on our first day there so we decided to duck out of the rain and hide in the cinema. This was a lot of fun! We saw the new Harry Potter film, which was good, and enjoyed the snack deal combo – large box of popcorn, large bag of crisps and a large coke, yummy!
The weather was much improved over the next two days and we spent our time wandering around Chinatown and Little India. I was very excited in Chinatown to finally get food in a bag, wanton noodles, and it was delish! We also enjoyed the biggest biriani and samosas in Little India – have you noticed a theme yet?!
Wandering along the river was very pleasant and we saw the mer-lion monument. This outing ended in the Raffles Hotel for a famous Singapore sling cocktail. This was quite a treat for us because it’s a fancy place and we hadn’t drunk any alcohol for over a month! We financially paid for it though (a whole day’s budget near enough!) but we got our money back in free monkey nuts so it’s all good!
Our final day was spent in Singapore Zoo. Apparently, it’s among the best in the world but we both agree that it’s the best we’ve ever visited. The animals are exceptionally well treated and look very happy. John’s favorite was the polar bear while I was quite taken with the baboons, although the funniest were the giant tortoises. They were huge, at least as high as my waist, and the male was trying to mount the female which was made even more difficult by the slippery mud and the fact she was having none of it! Love is in the air, or maybe not in this instance. It was hilarious!
