The transition went as follows; from walking to school, to riding there on our own second hand motorcycle and most rewardingly from eating, sleeping and watching TV, all in one room at the apartment, to a two bedroom house, complete with our very own kitchen and parking space. We do “normal” things like go to the gym and to dinner with our friends, also spending every first Saturday of the month at Tesco Lotus shopping for groceries and putting our feet up at the end of another busy day. We’ve become part of a wonderful church family, and continue to enjoy every part of our positions as English Program Teachers. We’ve been accepted as part of the community, and welcomed into the lifestyle with great ease. Overall, we share in daily doings of the Thai culture and try to embrace our differences to them by adding our own familiarity to each situation.
It is said that “A change is as good as a holiday” and by grabbing the opportunity to travel to this point in our lives has proved to be just that. But while we are snuggled with set jobs and an easy lifestyle, we are not yet comfortable enough to give the travel bug a rest. And with the October holidays just around the corner, we can look forward to cheap travels within the Asian spectrum.
Chokdee Kaa!
Tip of the Day:
For our “Tip of the Day” we’ve decided to compile a summary of the highs and lows that we’ve encountered throughout travelling.
We both agreed that the lowest of all lows was being turned back at the Ethiopian border for not obtaining our visas beforehand!
